Danish master carver Erik Nording has debuted his popularly priced “Shorty” pipe. It follows the recent success of the black Eriksen Starter and Eriksen Colors pipes. Arango Cigar Co. is the exclusive U.S. distributor for all Erik Nording products. Named for its four-inch length and quick smoke, Shorty fits easily into a pocket. Its one-piece bowl, base and shank are molded black plastic and the bit is black acrylic. A shallow, heat-dissipating white porcelain bowl/cap fits into the bowl and holds the tobacco. Shorty shares significant features and benefits with its two Eriksen predecessors. They all accept Nording’s highly absorbent volcanic clay Filter Stones, found exclusively in Denmark. Formerly called “Keystones,” they significantly cool and dry the smoke. Unscrewing Shorty’s porcelain bowl/cap from the main bowl reveals a spiral gallery in the base that holds the Filter Stones and channels the smoke through them and into the shank. The smoker adds a few granules, replaces the porcelain bowl/cap, fills it with tobacco and smokes as usual. The Filter Stones keep the tobacco dry to the bottom of the bowl, so smokers can enjoy the last bit of tobacco, making any pipe more economical to use. Shorty wholesales for only $10.
